Weekend Ready Camping is run by Weekend Ready, LLC (“we”). This policy explains what we collect when you visit the site, create an account, or share a Hitchhiker stop; what we show publicly; and how to have your information changed or deleted. We keep it short and we keep it true to what the site actually does.
The short version
- We only ever show a park or town, never an exact spot, and new stops appear 3 days after the rock was found.
- We strip location and camera data from every photo before we store it. We never keep your original file.
- Your email address is never shown publicly. Only your nickname is.
- A person reviews every story and photo before it appears.
- We don't sell your information, and we don't use advertising trackers.
1. What we collect
When you browse
Like any website, our hosting provider receives technical information with each request, such as your IP address, browser type, and the pages you visit. We use it to run and protect the site. We don't currently use analytics or advertising tools; if that changes, we'll update this page first.
When you create an account
- Your email address, used to sign in, to send your verification code, and to contact you about your stops.
- Your password, stored only in scrambled (hashed) form that we can't read.
- Your public nickname.
- Your confirmation that you are 18 or older, and when you accepted our terms and this policy.
When you use the trip planner
The trips you plan: their names, the park, dates, site type and notes you enter, and your packing, meal, grocery and to-do lists. These are private to your account and never shown to anyone else, including other visitors. You can delete a trip, with all its lists, at any time.
When you share a Hitchhiker stop
- Which rock you found, the date, the place you type, your story, and up to three photos.
- Photos: phones often hide the exact GPS position, time, and camera details inside a photo. We re-save every photo with all of that removed before it is stored, and we check that nothing survived. Your original file is never stored.
- Your confirmation that your story and photos may be shared, and that anyone recognizable in your photos agreed (including that you are the parent or guardian of any children shown).
2. What is public, and what isn't
Once a moderator approves your stop, the rock's page shows:
- the park, town, or region (never a campsite, trail spot, or address)
- the date it was found (never a time)
- your story, which moderators may shorten or edit to remove names or location details
- the photos the moderator approved, and your nickname (a moderator may leave the name off)
Travel time: every Hitchhiker gets 3 days of travel time. A new stop appears 3 days after the day the rock was found, so nobody can use the site to tell where someone is camping right now.
Never public: your email address, the exact words you typed for the location, and your original story before moderation. Moderators can see these, and your email address, so they can review your stop and contact you if needed.
3. Children
Accounts are for people 18 and older. We don't knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has created an account, contact us and we'll delete it.
Families are part of the Hitchhikers fun, so photos may include children, but only a parent or guardian may share them. Moderators decline stories and photos that identify a child by name, school, or similar details, or that reveal where a family is staying.
4. How long we keep things
- Your account: until you ask us to delete it.
- Your trip plans: until you delete the trip or your account.
- The exact words you typed in a stop: up to 180 days after you send it, then erased. The reviewed public version stays on the rock's journey.
- Photos a moderator doesn't approve, or later takes down: deleted at the time of that decision.
- Approved stories and photos: for as long as they are part of the rock's journey, or until you ask us to remove them.
- A private record of moderation decisions (who decided what, and why), kept so we can handle questions and abuse.
6. Who helps us run the site
We share information only with the services that run the site for us, and only what each needs:
- Vercel hosts the website.
- Neon stores the database, sign-in accounts, and photos (in the United States), and sends verification codes.
- Cloudflare runs the bot check on our forms.
- SiteGround hosts our email, if you write to us.
We don't sell, rent, or trade your personal information.
7. Your choices
You can ask us for a copy of your information, to correct it, to remove a story or photo you shared, or to delete your account. Email info@weekendreadycamping.com from the address on your account and we'll take care of it.
8. Changes to this policy
If we change how we handle information, we'll update this page and its date. We record which version of this policy you accepted.
